J22 - Fleet 62

J22 Past Champions

Updated 3/11/2020
The Boat:

The J22 is one of the most popular, if not the most popular one design keel boat in the world.  It's fractional rig makes it easy to handle and it's light helm and lively response make it a really fun boat to sail. Strict one design class rules and sturdy construction enable these boats to remain competitive and hold their value.  In fact, 15 year old boats routinely win major J22 championships. The boat is usually raced with a crew of 3 or 4, but with it's large cockpit there's lots of room for that afternoon day sail.  For more information on the boat or class associations visit our Useful Links page.

The Fleet:

J22 Fleet 62 was formed at CYCOP in 1992.  We fleet race on Wednesday evenings from April to September and team, match or fleet race on weekends in the fall.  Wednesday races start at 6 PM (boats usually leave the dock around 5:30 PM).  We currently have 15 boats in the fleet and regularly have 10 to 12 boats on the starting line.  We are one of the largest J22 fleets on the East Coast.  We currently wet sail, but plans are in the works to dry sail in the not too distant future.  There is an extensive regional regatta schedule and a number of our skippers routinely sail in major J22 events.  Non-members are invited to crew and the fleet offers a learn to sail program for anyone who wants to join the fun.  Come on down and enjoy Philadelphia sailing at it's best.
