2021 Spring Cruise
Write-up
The 2021 Spring Cruise proved to be wonderful fun for the hardy. Specifically this was the coldest cruise on record.
We had a great opening cocktail party at the Gibson Island Yacht Squadron. Perfect weather and optimism that the forcast storm would somehow slide by.
Our fun Race from Gibson Island to Langford Creek proved to be highly competitive. Cloudy skies and a nice breeze had the fleet tacking acroww the bay then charging up the Chester River as the wind built in the afternoon.
With a burst of speed over the last mile, Jon and Karen Wright won the Happy Hour Trophy.
Shortly after the fleet made it to the anchorage the rain and wind ctarted in earnest.
Saturday morning the conditions were downright rude. 35 degrees with a 25 to 30kt wind. Plus rain. Races were cancelled and the fleet returned to Rock Hall.
Conditions were not much better on Sunday so racing was cancelled for the day and the fleet remained in Rock Hall to socialize and do other touristy things.
Our final evening, beach party was colder than hoped for, but everyone bundled up and had a great time as always.
The moral of the story is that no matter the weather, three to four days on the Chesapeake Bay with friends is ALWAYS a good time.
