The 2022 Spring Cruise Update #2
May 1, 2022

By now, I hope our captains and mates have wet bottoms and buffed topsides. The Spring Cruise is quickly approaching and things are shaping up nicely for a memorable Memorial Day weekend.

The marinas are also filling up and it’s time to make reservations and submit your cruise registrations asap. You can register quickly and easily by using the link on the club website: Member Central/Cruising/Spring Cruise. The site also includes copies of the cruise General Orders and a roster of registered yachts.

The General Orders include contact information for the Annapolis Yacht Basin and Solomons Island Inn and Marina where we have reserved slips for the fleet.

Just to recap, we’re kicking off the season with a cocktail reception at the Annapolis Yacht Club on Thursday, May 26. Three days of racing will follow, ending up at the Solomon Island Inn and Marina on Solomons Island for another reception and awards banquet on Sunday evening May 29.

Rooms are available at the Solomons Island Inn if you can’t join the cruise but would like to attend the awards banquet. Club members who can’t make the cruise are also invited to attend the AYC reception on Thursday evening. Just make sure you register for either one, or both, of those events.

A note to Captains: we have members who are looking to crew with the fleet. If you have room on your boat and would like to make new friends, please contact me and I’ll make the connection.

The 2022 Spring Cruise Update #1
March 7, 2022

Now is the time to start making plans for the annual CYCoP Spring Cruise, a club tradition like no other. The Spring Cruise is a four-day event which allows us to roam farther afield than we do on the shorter Fall Cruise.

This year, we’ll be on the Chesapeake’s Western Shore, starting with a cocktail reception Thursday evening May 26 at the newly rebuilt Annapolis Yacht Club.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be filled with racing, cruising, and tranquil evening raft-ups on our way down to Solomons Island where the awards banquet will be held at the Solomons Island Inn. (It has a marina attached for arranging slips.)

For planning purposes, Friday night likely will be an anchorage on the Rhode River (near Galesville for picking up/unloading crew), and Saturday night in the Little Choptank River, which is somewhat remote and not a good pick-up/drop-off spot.

Memorial Day weekend is always busy, especially in the Annapolis area with Naval Academy graduation and Blue Angels performances. (For those who still plan to have a sit-down dinner after the Thursday reception, now is the time to make reservations due to the graduation crowd.)

Some members have already found it difficult to find a boat to charter, so we’re asking our membership to step in. If you own a boat and won’t be able to make the cruise for one reason or another, we would appreciate it if you would consider chartering your boat to fellow members. We are also asking Captains to invite non-boating members to join them as crew if possible.

We have reserved 10 slips at the Annapolis Yacht Basin adjacent to AYC for Thursday night. If you need dock space for Thursday night, we suggest you make your reservation ASAP. You can reach AYB at 410-263-3544. Be sure to tell them you are with the CYCoP cruise.

To make a slip reservation at the Solomons Island Inn and Marina, each CYCoP Captain should contact dockmaster John Landry at 410-326-1052. More detailed information will be coming soon in the cruise General Orders.

Don’t wait to make your plans and reservations. You can always cancel with 24 hours’ notice if you can’t make it. The CYCOP Spring Cruise is always a memorable start to the new sailing season. You don’t want to miss it.

Call or write if you have any questions.
