Spring Cruise - Oxford, MD

The 2023 Spring Cruise was a great success. Three days of great sailing plus great shore side parties and raft-ups.

The cruise started with a reception Thursday evening, May 25, at Tred Avon Yacht Club (TAYC) in Oxford, MD. As usual TAYC was a great host serving their signature crab dip among other appetizers.
For the Fun Race on Friday, Past Commodore Steve Director planned a challenging race out to the Choptank River then up the Tred Avon River. The conditions required lots and lots of tacking! Only two yachts were able to complete the race without having to retire, generally from running aground! Akela III won the race followed closely by Esprit.
Saturday the conditions were just about perfect. 12 to 15 kt winds and a 12-mile course on the Choptank River that challenged sailors with all points of sail. Jeff and Kathy McCarron on their new yacht, Sonrisa, won Class A and Richard and Will Herbert on Revonoc won Class B. The raft up Saturday night in La Trappe Creek provided a great opportunity for everyone to re-live the days racing while enjoying a spectacular Eastern Shore anchorage.
Sunday the forecast was for about the same wind and a little rain. But luckily the rain held off for most of the day. Again, almost perfect conditions for a nearly 13 NM race that ended off the Tred Avon Yacht Club. On Sunday John and Carolyn Folk won Class A and Revonoc again took first in Class B.
Sunday night the fleet gathered at the historic Robert Morris Inn for dinner and award celebrations.
